GEAR UP Iowa’s Student Summit helps students develop personal goals and build leadership skills.

GEAR UP Iowa will hold its third annual student summit this summer, and we’re excited to announce a new format! Instead of one three-day summit in central Iowa, we will host a series of events at multiple campuses across the state. These events are free and are open to all current GEAR UP Iowa students. Space is limited to please register ASAP. Spots are first come, first served. Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.  Register here.

Al Exito College Intensive, Grand View University, June 7-9, 2018

Al Exito is a statewide organization that empowers Latino students and families to succeed in life, and in Iowa, by encouraging the pursuit of higher education through leadership training, entrepreneurial skill development, enriched educational opportunities and supportive mentorship. Grand View University and Al Exito will partner for a three-day college intensive camp focused on creating a solid college plan for Iowa's incoming juniors and seniors, as well as grounding them in a strong sense of culture and empowerment. Parents will be invited for a special College 101 designed to prepare and equip them to support their student’s academic journey. Pick-up/drop-off sites: Des Moines, Marshalltown, Perry, Ottumwa. Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.

GEAR UP for College Success, University of Northern Iowa, June 20, 2018

This high-energy summit will be led by university leaders and student orientation staff ready to get us on the path to success. UNI student leaders will lead the GEAR UP Iowa students throughout the day as they experience a series of small and interactive sessions from a variety of campus offices. The topics will include accessing campus resources, choosing a major, grit and resilience and leadership opportunities on campus. Pick-up/drop-off sites: Fort Dodge, Cedar Rapids. Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.

GEAR UP Iowa Student Summit, Eastern Iowa Community College (Scott Campus), June 25, 2018

This one-day summit will be jam-packed with learning and fun.The topics include preparing for college, skill building, culture studies, self advocacy and careers in STEM. The day will conclude at the ballpark for a QC River Bandits baseball game. The summit will take place at the Scott Community College Urban Campus in Davenport. Pick-up/drop-off sites: Columbus Junction, Clinton (There will also be transportation from Davenport Urban campus to Modern Woodman Ballpark.) Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.

GEAR UP for an Adventure, Iowa State University, July 10, 2018

Come to the student summit at Iowa State University and learn about all the ways you can choose your adventure. Led by both ISU staff and current students, GEAR UP Iowa students will have a chance to explore topics including preparing for college, self-advocacy and the chance to see several different college and their programs. Pick-up/drop-off sites: Des Moines, Marshalltown, Perry. Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.

College Is Coming: Be Prepared, Buena Vista University, August 1, 2018

This one-day summer summit at BVU will hone the skills needed to find the best college for each attendee. Led by BVU staff and students, GEAR UP Iowa students will explore how to best prepare for college, college costs and how to be ready for them, and what is available on campus for students to get involved. Family members are welcome to attend. Pick-up/drop-off sites: Denison, Ft. Dodge, Sioux City. Registration deadline is Friday, April 27.
