College Savings Iowa Program

Learn more about College Savings Iowa and GEAR UP Iowa's partnership for matching funds in a 529 College Savings Plan

Need Help Saving for College?

GEAR UP Iowa families can boost their college savings thanks to a partnership between Iowa College Aid and State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald!

Students and families who save as little as $500 are:

  • 3 times more likely to continue their education after high school
  • 4 times more likely to graduate*

GEAR UP Iowa families who attend a GEAR UP Iowa event at their student’s school can receive a voucher redeemable for a $25 contribution to their account from College Savings Iowa. GEAR UP Iowa vouchers can even be used to open a new College Savings Plan account! Vouchers are offered on a first come, first served basis. Families can redeem one voucher per GEAR UP Iowa event and any relative or family member can set up and fund a College Savings Iowa 529 Plan account for a student. So the more GEAR UP Iowa events you attend, the more opportunity to earn matching dollars in your student's account!

Redeem Your College Savings Iowa Voucher

To redeem your voucher, please fill out the Account Verification form in order to confirm your account with the State Treasurer’s Office. If you have not set up an account yet, please visit to start your account. After that, return here to complete the verification form. Once your form is complete, we will confirm your student’s account and the $25 credit will be deposited to your account. Matching funds will be distributed until the funding source has been depleted.
